Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun; The Japanese don't care to, the Chinese wouldn't dare to, Hindus and Argentines sleep firmly from twelve to one, But Englishmen detest a siesta, In the Philippines there are lovely screens, to protect you from the glare, In the Malay states there are hats like plates, which the Britishers won't wear, At twelve noon the locals swoon, and no further work is done - But Mad Dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
This blog is intended to stand as a record of my journey by bicycle from Beirut to Venice. I will be making my way through Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Albania and Croatia before arriving in Italy. I will try not to cheat by taking planes / trains / automobiles, but can't promise that the situation on the ground in some areas won't make biking...unwise. I'll be carrying a pair of flip-flops, lots of water, a mobile phone and a sawn-off toothbrush, and I'll see you after.

Not a bad collection of contributions there from kind-hearted Croats who thought you were destitute, down-and-out and desperate...?
